Get the Holidays Right – Adopt or Foster Parent

I want six children. That was my wish as a child. As an adult, 6 kids were out of reach, but kids were an important part of my life. My first daughter was born in 1987. Then for ten years I waited for the right man to come along that would be a father to my daughter and want more children.

Blessed to find my husband, who adopted Alicia our expectation for more children was at a standstill. Miscarriages kept that hope far away. Foster care was discussed, but for many reasons, we couldn’t do it. I still regret that to this day. We did have another child who was a very welcomed addition to our family.

Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents

I had met several foster parents during this time who loved those children as their own. Some went on to adopt them and their joy made me feel like the world was a better place. They are my heroes for giving these children a forever home.

In the spirit of the holidays when giving back is on our minds, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids and the Ad Council are working together to feature a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) about adoption from foster care. These PSAs also feature the importance of keeping siblings together.

Adopting Deanta and Ranija is the most important thing that I have done in my life. I am so glad that my husband and I were able to keep them together. Having a brother or sister is such an influential and life-defining relationship. I want to encourage all prospective parents to think about the importance of keeping siblings together. I am so happy that I welcomed them both into our family.

Foster Parenting and Adoption Campaign

In the spirit of the holidays when giving back is on our minds, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids and the Ad Council are working together to feature a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) about adoption from foster care. These PSAs also feature the importance of keeping siblings together.

This campaign began in 2004 and more than 22,000 children who were once introduced on AdoptUsKids have been adopted. And over 35,000 families have registered to adopt through AdoptUSKids.

We can keep this amazing work going. Watch and share the new PSAs. – And give back in one of the most extraordinary ways by considering foster parenting and adoption.
